A "Viewpoint Essay" in Gale's Opposing Viewpoints In Context consists of an excerpt from a source (journal, magazine, newspaper, report, government publication, website, blog, etc.), prefaced by an editor-written summary of the source's position, along with questions for the reader and a list of further readings. The articles are rarely strict reproductions of the original source -- they have been trimmed down considerably, edited, reformatted, and section titles have often been added that were not in the original document.
